是的，是的，當你把所有入學該辦的事項都辦好了，那就不妨再花點時間來參加台灣同學會吧！8/24當天請帶著你因為即將展開的新生活所帶來的期待和新鮮感，來與其他遠渡重洋來讀書的同學們聊聊天，交換一下彼此的心情。讓我們組成一個可愛的小圈圈互相幫助。

當天除了介紹校園及其周邊環境，中午我們還要在學校操場華盛頓廣場公園（對啊，是我們人很好開放給市民和遊客休憩的欸。誤。）野餐*，感受一下紐約的悠閒生活。屆時將介紹各位同學學校附近八街上的各種餐廳，想近一步了解在學校附近何處覓食的同學也請特別注意，趕快把行程空出來囉～

Yup, yup, when you’ve already done with all the bothering paper works and feel like to chill out before the semester rolling on, come to enjoy a great day and sweet picnic in Washington Square. TSA staff will show you around the campus and the restaurants around here. Please bring approximately 10 to 15 dollars for the lunch. You will be shown the restaurants and make your own decision for the meal.

來了，來了，NYU的新生終於來了！

啊，不對，反過來，是NYU TSA的校園生活服務日終於要來了！

歡迎大家來到紐約，展開一段到你年老之後都還會回味不已的異國生活。在開始異鄉之前，讓我們先確定好你能好好解決這些有點煩瑣卻不得不做的生活瑣事，讓你有個完美的學生活。

日期：2010.8.17 (Tue.) 以及 2010.8.18 (Wed.) 兩天行程相同，請擇一參加即可。

時間：10:00 am

(1)     學生ID：到校第一件事情就是獲得一張NYU ID，讓你可以在NYU的校園中通行無阻。

(2)     入學證明：如果你還沒在網路上開通你的入學證明，那你應該排除萬難來參加一下，和我們一起到學生服務中心去領一張熱騰騰的入學證明吧！

(3)     繳交檢疫表：如果你沒有像其他人乖乖地在6月底之前就寄回健康中心，就必須帶著表格親自跑一趟才行喔。

(4)     銀行及手機指引*：如果對於銀行和手機公司你想要有更多選擇，請讓我們為你簡單說明和介紹各家銀行和手機業者。說明結束之後，你就可以和剛認識的新朋友一起手牽手去開戶和申請手機囉！

(5)     Chase銀行開戶：想要在Chase開戶的同學，當天會TSA特別情商在Chase Bank工作的台灣友人Kevin親自至校園中為你辦理開戶。（TSA新生獨享喔！）

*欲當日辦理的同學請記得帶相關證件（護照、I-20、錄取通知及紐約當地住址，並附上相關地址證明；無紐約地址及證明者，請另攜帶台灣身分證或駕照供開戶使用)

Here comes the Campus Living (Solution) Day! Welcome you all for the coming couple years – if your program would be longer than one year – anyway, welcome you all to expand your new life here in New York City. Before digging in the academic life, let’s get through the daily livings. It’s kind of bothering but essential. Unless you are already done with them, or you can just take the easiest way to get through them with us before you feel get crazy.

Date: August 17, 2010 (Tue.) and August 18, 2010 (Wed.) Attend either session.

(1)     NYU Student ID: If you were not holding your little purple card with stupid headshot on it, you should be here;

(2)     Enrollment Certificate: If you haven’t done the enrollment certification on NYU’s Albert system, you should come get one at the Student Service Center with us;

(3)     Immunization Form: If you didn’t sent the immunization form back to the health center by June – like others did – you should be here;

(4)     Bank account & Communication services: If you were just worrying about carrying all the tuition with you or not holding a working phone at this moment, please, let us show you where to solve this situation;

(5)     Chase Bank on campus service: If you would like to open your bank account in Chase Bank,we have an Taiwanese working in Chase Bank, Kevin, with us on campus to assist you open a new account.

* If you feel like to open your bank account after the session, bring your passport, I-20 form, acceptance letter and the prove of your current address in New York. TSA staff will show you where to go but might not have time to be with you.

Census 2010

Be Proud!Be Counted!
We would like to remind Taiwanese Americans to check off “Other Asian” in the Race and Ethnicity sections and write in “Taiwanese”.

The action is not just only aiming for the census issue, but also for a better awareness of Taiwanese association in the majority society in United States, so that we make an effort to pass out a message that “We are here!” Yes, we want to be recognized, and be counted.

「填寫台灣人」運動, 推動經過。

在美國來自台灣的移民以及他們的子孫估計超過一百萬人。可是在美國人口普查表的族裔 欄中, 並沒有 「台灣人」一欄。所以無法在美國的統計數字上顯明出台灣人的力量和貢獻, 以致台灣人失去很多應得的福利。此活動自 2000 年美國人口普查就開始進行. 當時由台美公民協會主導, 聯合全美各社團, 包括 FAPA, 教授協會, 醫師協會, 各地同鄉會及婦女會出錢出力, 巡迴全美各城市呼籲。 努力結果明顯反映在 2000 年美國人口普查結果中, 有效提升了台灣人的能見度。 現在, 2010 年美國人口普查即將開始了。 台美公民協會將再次主導, 由洛杉磯台灣會館提供辦 公室, 再次推動「填寫台灣人」的運動。推動工作包括成立委員會, 文宣製作, 網路宣傳, 分區演講, 造訪商家, 以及媒體傳播。以下是關於人口普查的小知識:

 依美國憲法規定, 人口普查每十年做一次。
 人口普查表將於 2010 年三月寄至府上, 您務必此表於 2010 年四月一日前寄回。
 美國人口普查將計算所有居住在美的人士。無論您或您的家人是否持有綠卡或是否為美國公民, 只要居住在美國, 都列入計算。  您填寫的資料將有法律保障,完全保密。
 填寫人口普查只需要十分鐘, 卻對您的社區及個人利益有莫大影響力。

The only change is that the application form is now on line. Some students are having difficulty activating their netID, which is necessary to access the form, but these problems are being resolved immediately as they come up. The process is much quicker now because the students can fill the form out electronically and then fax or email it to the OISS. Anyone who is having a problem should email our office at intl.students.scholars@nyu.edu.
